In the DIY world, B and Q is as familiar in the UK as Home Depot & Lowe’s in the US, or OBI in Germany. Offering tools, supplies, and invaluable assistance for DIY-ers of all experience and skill levels, B & K is more than likley the name you’ll see when it comes time to re-do the kitchen.
In fact, you might say B and K is to DIY what BBC is to the telly, or what Online Gambling is to virtual casinos and sportsbooks!
First step, of course, is to figure out what you like (and what you hate!) about the old one. Take your measurements and pay very specific attention to where all the hookups are. The last thing you want to do, in your perfectly designed new kitchen, is destroy a cupboard — simply because you just now realized that you need to run the gas or power through the back to the other side!
Of course, B and Q can already help you there. They’ll provide plenty of measuring tapes, pencils, and planning resources. They can also tell you just how much room you have to work ’round that unsightly gas stub that pokes out of the wall right where you wanted your pantry to go!
Next step will be the most fun (for some of us, anyway). This is when you get to plan what you want your new kitchen to look like. Granite worktops? Cooke and Lewis walnut doors? Anything you like, B and Q will be happy to oblige. And should you feel at a bit of a loss, they’ll be happy to provide some suggestions…up to and including making the decisions for you, if you happen to be one of those “just make it look good” types.
Chances are, you’ll spend the next few stages changing and re-arranging. Don’t fear, it happens to us all. B and Q even makes it easy to make mistakes.
Comes the hard part (the fun part for those of us who weren’t as happy during the design phase…you lads know what I mean). Installing. If you don’t happen to have a way to drag home your heavy new sink, B and Q will take care of it. If you don’t happen to know how to attach it to the plumbing, B and Q will do that as well. If you don’t happen to know how to turn the faucet on…well, you may have better things to worry about than remodeling your kitchen!
Of course, if you’re a die-hard DIY-er, you’ll be taking care of the hands-on work yourself. In that case, once B and Q provides the raw materials, you take over. Er…as long as you have the right tools (and if not, B and Q will sell them to you). They might even have a selection of emergency first-aid kits and fire extinguishers, should you be not quite as handy as you thought…
The only thing that B and Q won’t be able to do for you is enjoy it on a day-to-day basis once it’s all finished. I’m afraid you’re on your own on that one.
